Uganda

Bilateral development cooperation between Iceland and Uganda started in 2000.  ICEIDA has for some years provided support to the Kalangala District, located on islands in Lake Victoria. The main goal of the cooperation is to support the local government, to implement its development strategy in the areas of fisheries, education and tourism, and at the same time to improve local governance, thus promoting and supplying better service to the inhabitants. For years, ICEIDA supported adult education in the districts of Mukono and Kalangala. Support has also been given to entrepreneurship training, where participants receive training and preparation for their first business ventures. Furthermore, ICEIDA supports a project in the field of fisheries, whose overall objective is to reduce poverty among fishing communities through improved quality and safety of fish for the domestic, regional and export market as well as improving the livelihoods of fish dependent communities. Recently, a platform has been created for a new project promoting gender responsive climate change mitigation and adaptation in Uganda.
