Arms Transports

The transport of arms by civil aircraft through Icelandic territory is prohibited without permission from the Icelandic Civil Aviation Administration, cf. Article 2 of Regulation No 937/2005 on the Transport of Munitions by Aircraft. Arms transports by state aircraft through Icelandic territory is prohibited without permission from the Minister for Foreign Affairs, cf. Directive on Access of Military Vessels and Military Aircraft of Foreign States, which are not fighting a War, to Icelandic Territory, No. 44/1939.

International restrictive measures, primarily of the UN Security Council and the European Union, impose constraints on arms transports.

No weapons of mass destruction may be brought into Icelandic territory, including nuclear, chemical or biological weapons. Iceland does not support or finance transport of arms which are prohibited under agreements to which Iceland is a party, including anti-personnel landmines (APLC) and cluster munitions (CCM).
