Environmental Affairs

Certain disarmament treaties have a specific relevance to environmental affairs, for example:

  • The Antarctic Treaty of 1 December 1959.
  • The Sea-Bed Treaty (banning the emplacement of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction on and in the ocean floor) of 11 December 1971.
  • The Environmental Modification Convention (ENMOD) of 18 May 1977, prohibiting military or any other hostile use of environmental modification techniques.
