Europe - Regional Cooperation
Iceland takes part in regional cooperation on disarmament and security issues in Europe, including:
- The European Union (EU). Iceland's cooperation with EU on disarmament and security issues is primarily based on a joint statements made by the Governments of the Member States of EU and the EEA-EFTA States on political dialogue, which is a part of the Agreement on the European Economic Area.
- North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO). As a Member State of NATO Iceland engages in disarmament and security considerations, e.g. concerning mines, small arms and light weapons etc. See North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) for more details.
- Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). Iceland is a member of OSCE, which deals with negotiation of international agreements and consultations on disarmament and security issues, including the Open Skies Treaty and the Conventional forces Europe Treaty. - The Nordic Countries and the Baltic States. The Nordic and Baltic countries cooperate in many areas. Consultations are held regularly on disarmament and security issues, including export control.
