Missiles

Missiles can carry nuclear weapons or other weapons of mass destruction. There is no binding international agreement controlling their proliferation. The UN General Assembly has, for a number of times, established committees of experts to examine missiles. The UN Security Council adopted Resolution No 1540 (2004), which prohibits others than Governments to develop missile technology, the aim of which is to reduce the risk of terrorist organisations acquiring such technology.

Iceland participates in international cooperation to control the spread of missile technology, inter alia the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) and the Hague Code of Conduct against Ballistic Missile Proliferation (HCOC).
