Overflight and Landing Authorisations

Civilian aircraft are required to obtain authorisation from the Icelandic Civil Aviation Administration for overflight and landing in Iceland, cf. Regulation No 904/2005 on the Flight of Aircraft in International Transport through Icelandic Air Space and Convention on International Civil Aviation (Chicago 1944).

State, including military aircraft require authorisation from the Ministry for Foreing Affairs for overflight and landing in Iceland, cf. Directive No 44/1939 on Access of Military Vessels and Military Aircraft of Foreign States, which are not at War.

Iceland is a Member State of the Treaty on Open Skies (TOS). The Open Skies Consultative Commission (OSCC), which operates within OSCE, deals with the implementation of the Treaty.
