International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is the primary cooperation forum at international level in the field of atomic energy. IAEA exercises an important regulatory function with regard to nuclear weapons. The Agency regulates the implementation of the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Iceland has a seat in IAEA's Advisory Committee on Radiation Safety Standards (RASSC), the Committee being chaired by the director of the Icelandic Radiation Protection Institute for the period 2008-2011.
