The role of Nordic cooperation

The Nordic countries cooperate to safeguard their common interests. Their cooperation is grounded in the shared values of the peoples of the Nordic region.

Nordic cooperation strengthens the Nordic countries, and highlights their shared interests, increases interest in the Nordic countries and northern Europe in general, and serves to enhance Nordic influence within the European Union and in the international arena.

The Nordic Council of Ministers is a forum for leaders of the five nations and the three autonomous territories to meet in order to promote Nordic cooperation.

The objective of the Nordic Council of Ministers is to ensure that Nordic cooperation takes place in fields where it yields results. Cooperation with neighbouring countries is important, as is all cooperation that enhances Nordic influence in Europe. The Council of Ministers participates directly in fields where the individual nations, international bodies or others cannot achieve as much.
