It was launched in 2000 and has been steadily growing since then, now counting more than 100 fiction writers in all genres. The aim of this website is to make information about contemporary lcelandic literature accessible to the general public, students of Icelandic literature and scholars, and to support Icelandic literature at home and abroad.

The Writers´ Union of Iceland - The Writers´ Union of Iceland is a professional organisation for authors founded in 1974. Until then, Icelandic writers had a union since 1928 when writers got their own chapter within the Artists Union of Iceland. From 1945, Icelandic writers formed two unions which worked closely together from 1957 until they eventually merged. The Writers´ Union of Iceland currently has some 350 members, including poets, novelists, dramatists, scriptwriters, writers of children's books, authors of academic works, and translators.

Gljufrasteinn Gljúfrasteinn was the home and workplace of Halldór Laxness (winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1955) and his family for more than half a century. It has now been opened to the public as a museum, unchanged from when Laxness lived there.

Hagthenkir Hagþenkir, the Assocation of Icelandic Non-fiction Writers, was founded in 1983 and gained Ministry of Education certification in 1987. Membership is open to writers of published books and related materials who authorise the Association to negotiate contracts on their behalf in accordance with its rules. At present the Association has over 500 members. The aim of the Association is to protect the interests and rights of its members and to improve conditions for contracts and the publishing of academic and educational material and other of its members' activities.

Nordichouse The Nordic House in Reykjavík is a cultural institution opened in 1968 and operated by the Nordic Council of Ministers. Its goal is to foster and support cultural connections between Iceland and the other Nordic countries. To this end the Nordic House organizes a diverse program of cultural events and exhibitions.

Stofnun_Vigdisar_Finnbogadottur The Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Institute of Foreign Languages is a research institute working within the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Iceland. The Institute is a research centre for scholars who teach modern languages and cultures, the classical languages, and translation studies. Since 1st October 2001 the Institute has had the honour of bearing the name of Ms. Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, former President of Iceland, 1980-1996.

The Reykjavik International Literature Festival - The Reykjavik International Literary Festival is one of the major literary events in Iceland and is held bi-annually. Many of the world's best-known authors have attended the Reykjavík Literary Festival in the 20 years since its inception in 1985, amongst them Gunter Grass, Isabel Allende, Jose Saramago, Haruki Murakami, A. S. Byatt, Kurt Vonnegut, Fay Weldon, Paul Auster and many others.

The first Mooreland children's and youth literature festival was held in the autumn of 2001. From the start, the focus has been on the festival being international, authors and scholars have come from the Nordic countries,Britain, Germany, the Baltic countries, U.S.A. and Canada. It has become a tradition to name the festival after the Mooreland (Vatnsmýri) where the Nordic House stands.
