Embassy staff participate in DC Pride Parade together with other Nordic Embassies
The staff of the Embassy of Iceland celebrated DC Pride Parade on Saturday 8th together with the other Nordic countries´ Embassies in DC and locals. This year DC Pride was dedicated to commemorating 50 years since the Stonewall Riots in New York.
This is the fourth year in a row that the Nordics gather for the DC Pride to show our support for the LGBTI+ community and promote equality and human rights. In all five Nordic countries same sex marriages is legalized and same-sex couples can adopt children. Equality is a fundamental value for the Nordics and our pride slogan is “Nordics 4 Equality”. Promoting equality abroad is a priority for the Nordic countries and the Nordic Embassies continue to work together on this objective.
In connection with the DC Pride the Nordic Ambassadors participated in a virtual Twitter Town Hall to discuss equality and LGBTI+ rights hosted by the Human Rights Council. A compilation from the discussion can be found here.
