Statement by Iceland

Thank you President,

Iceland welcomes the delegation of Sierra Leone and its national report.

In the spirit of constructive engagement, Iceland recommends the following:

1. Ratify the Second Optional Protocol of the ICCPR.
2. Strengthen the legal framework to address sexual and gender-based violence, including increased access to support services for survivors.
3. Ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health services.
4. Eradicate female genital mutilation.
5. Decriminalize same sex relations between consenting adults.
6. Adopt comprehensive anti-discrimination legislation that explicitly prohibits discrimination against persons of diverse SOGIESC.

We wish Sierra Leone all success for its review.
