Statement by Iceland

Mr. President,

Iceland welcomes the delegation of Singapore and its national report.

In the spirit of constructive engagement, Iceland recommends the following:

1. Abolish the death penalty and ratify the Second Optional Protocol to the ICCPR.
2. Criminalize all forms of gender-based violence (GBV), including domestic violence.
3. Eradicate female genital mutilation.
4. Raise the minimum age of marriage to 18 years without exception.
5. Adopt comprehensive national anti-discrimination legislation that explicitly prohibits discrimination against persons of diverse SOGIESC.
6. Legalize same-sex marriage

We wish Singapore all success for its review.
